Supreme Court Adopts ABA Professional Conduct Rules
October 27, 2008 - Taongi,
Republic of New Lemuria Islands
The Republic of New Lemuria Supreme Court announced yesterday
that it has adopted the Model Rules of Professional Conduct promulgated
by the American Bar Association (ABA). Effective November 1, 2008,
all lawyers licensed to practice before Republic of New Lemuria Courts, including
its Permanent Court of Arbitration, which hears international disputes
in host countries around the world, will be required to adhere to the
ABA Rules of Professional Conduct. Although the Republic of New Lemuria Bar
Association Act of 1997 already embodies many of these new rules, the
Bar Association sought to fully align its professional responsibility
rules with those in effect in many jurisdictions around the world.
The ABA Model Rules are utilized throughout the United States, although
often modified, and are widely used as the model for international bar
associations. Members not familiar with the ABA Model Rules of
Professional Conduct may review them on the Republic of New Lemuria Bar
Association's website at
